This is the time of year when we celebrate the new geniuses among us—graduates. But whatever happened to, arguably, the first real genius, the man who observed that “much study wearies the body” (Ecclesiastes 12:12)? This half-hour presentation examines the life of Solomon, the wisest and most knowledgable man of his time (or ever, second only to Jesus). How did his life turn from genius gifted by God to Real Man of Genius in the Budweiser use of the phrase? Here’s a hint. Just Show Me Humility

Just Show Me Loyalty

Where are our true loyalties? Ultimately, it’s a question of friendship. The Apostle James pointedly asks, “You adulterous people, don’t you know friendship with the world is hatred toward God?” (James 4:4). But how do we know if we’ve succumbed to “friendship with the world”? Just Show Me Vigilance

The world is watching how we live our lives. One of the clearest evidence of a renewed heart is in how we speak. Jesus said that the “mouth speaks from that which fills the heart” (Matthew 12:34). This is more than just avoiding fowl language. It’s the choice we have between blessing and cursing another. Cursing comes when we pronounce judgment upon another for the purpose of diminishing them. “Set a guard over my mouth,” the psalmist prayed (Psalm 141:3). This 25-minute presentation offers three “mouth guard” principles from the book of James for practicing vigilance over our speech. Helping a Friend in Despair

We all hit potholes in the road of life; those times when, in our exasperation, we cry out to God, “Why?” Why are you doing this to me? At its core lies a question of faith—is God for us or against us? Harboring hurt and disappointment lands one in the sinkhole of despair. It’s a dark and lonely place. Those that find themselves there desperately need a friend. Or better—a brother or sister—to walk beside them. But how can we help a friend who’s landed in the sinkhole of despair?

This 40-minute presentation suggests some practical ways we can help those who are in despair. Even as importantly, it examines three temptations we need to avoid when we set out help others, lest we add even more discouragement to their sinkhole. Calling “time-out”

In games of sport a team or player is permitted to call time-outs. It’s designed into the game. Great coaches know how to strategically use time-outs to give their team an advantage. Yet, in the game of life, many of us can sometimes feel like calling a time-out is a sign of weakness or admission of defeat.
