Have you seen the “You are here” T-shirts with an arrow pointing to a small speck in a picture of a vast galaxy? It’s a humorous reminder that, despite our aspirations otherwise, we are not the center of the universe. And considering that there are an estimated 125 billion galaxies, eighteen for every living person, our little center of the universe is very small indeed. Yet, this insignificant little spec, visible on earth only for an instant of time, is, from God’s perspective, something He takes great delight in. The psalmist, David, asked with astonishment, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:3-4) God put our little spec on Earth to be ruler of His greater handiwork (Psalm 8:6). Now that we have that perspective, aren’t there bigger and better things to worry about?
